This August, I packed up my camera and headed to Tullydermot Falls with three very special people: my mam and my two boys. With Grannie flying back to Poland soon, we wanted to capture a few precious moments together before she headed home — something small, something simple, but something we would all treasure. It was truly a special session.
If you’ve ever been to Tullydermot Falls, you’ll know just how stunning it is. Hidden close to Swanlinbar and Ballyconnell in Co. Cavan, it’s one of those places that feels made for photographs — wild, peaceful, and unbelievably beautiful. The perfect backdrop for an outdoor family special session.
Of course, like many family shoots, the first few minutes were… let’s say interesting. A bit of moaning, a few dramatic sighs, and the usual “Do we have to?” from the boys. But they had already agreed, so once we got started, everything softened. The sound of the water, the fresh air, climbing around the rocks — suddenly the complaints were gone.
And then it turned into fun.
The boys relaxed, laughed, and before long they were enjoying themselves far more than they expected. Grannie lit up too — you could see how much it meant to her to be surrounded by her grandsons, knowing these photos would keep her company until she sees them again next summer.
We ended up capturing beautiful, genuine moments. No forced smiles — just real connection, tenderness, and the kind of memories that feel even more precious when your loved ones live far away.
It was a reminder of why I love photographing families, especially outdoors. These sessions aren’t just about pictures. They’re about freezing a moment in time — the way Grannie hugged them, the way the boys softened around her, the way the day turned from reluctance to joy.
Tullydermot Falls gave us the perfect setting, but it was the people who made the pictures magic.
